Local 100 members in Houston held a very successful protest against Comcast.  Comcast has been falsely advertising a low cost Internet package for low income families that basically NO ONE can sign up for.  When people call for the $9.99/month service, they are talked into signing up for a way more expensive package or paying for a huge deposit ~ a "bait and switch" move.  Comcast is ripping off low income families and doing bad business in Houston and across the country.  Local 100 has joined with a coalition of other groups to get Comcast to honor their word for low cost service.  We will fight until they shape up or get out of own town!  Way to go Local 100!

LARC monthly meetings are pictured here to show the many meetings that prepared the success of the LARC - Local 100 bargaining sessions. Local 100 LARC has elected a number of stewards.  Two of whom are Jerome August and Shalanda Fontenot.  They are a L100 Lafayette Stewards family.  They put in long hours with the daughter of the family who is an honorary Local 100 member.

The Local 100 Leadership conference was led by Mildred Edmond, the president of  L100.  She moderated the conference of 75 members from Local 100 and A Community Voice.  It was very inspiring!

"When I needed the union, you were there for me!"  Channon Horne, our new leader shares her excitement about Local 100, United Labor Unions and invites her co-workers to share their voice in solidarity!

Members of Local 100 United Labor Unions joined Arkansas Community Organizations in demanding that Comcast follow through with their deal to provide low-cost computers and Internet to low income families.

Protest was held at Comcast offices located at 2714 S. Shackleford in Little Rock, Ark. As part of an agreement with the FCC over the acquisition of NBC Universal, Comcast is supposed to offer low cost Internet and low cost computers to families with children enrolled in the federal school lunch program in Little Rock public schools. Yet when parents inquire about the service, they are given the run around.

 The two organizations are working with groups in other cities to put pressure on the company and the FCC to implement the agreement. Computers and Internet access have become as essential to families as phone service. The Internet is now essential for searching for jobs and other opportunities. Many low-income families cannot afford a computer or Internet service. 
“When I received information from my school about the new Comcast program, I was excited,” said Little Rock resident Marthella Johnson. “I called the 800 number and was told I would receive an application in the mail. That was back in August. I still have not received the application.”  Video of action.

Not only food service employees support our fight against Aramark, (top) Sandra Mendoza a Custodian at Attucks Elementary and Donnella Tyrone a Custodian at Wheatley High School have both signed our pledge to get Aramark OUT. What is good for food service workers is also good for Custodians. Sandra stated, "we stand with our sisters in Food Service to get Aramark out and common decency back in the District."
